Dear jan, I would love to help with the Dutch Project but as I am relatively new to WikiTree, I am still busy posting my family tree to the website. I have already posted over 300 Dutch family members (near and far) but have hundreds to go. When I have finished posting what I know I would be available for some volunteer work. The benefit of what I am doing right now is that I am getting more proficient in dealing with Dutch entries. Regards, Bert

Hi Bert,

We're so happy to see you are still active on WikiTree and caring about the Dutch profiles. The Dutch Roots Project is looking forward to give the project a new fresh start to put the Dutch in a more prominent place on the WikiTree map. The project is currently managing over 50,000 profiles and the total number of Dutch profiles on WikiTree exceeds 500,000! Within the project we are monitoring the quality of the Dutch profiles and assisting other WikiTreers in producing those profiles. We would love to pick up some other tasks but to do so we need more volunteers. This is why we check in with the members of the DRP to see if you would like to help us expand.

1) Would you like to do some volunteer work for the Dutch Roots Project? 2) If yes, what kind of work would you prefer to do within the Dutch Roots Project? E.g. translating, sourcing, or something else you want to work on?

We hope for a positive reaction but please don't feel obliged to volunteer. We just want to have a group of persons we can ask to help us with certain activities

Kind regards,

Jan, on behalf of the Dutch Roots Project

Hi Bert

Congratulations on certifying to work on pre-1700 profiles! It’s very important to read and understand this Help:Pre-1700 Profiles page. These profiles for deep ancestors are shared by many, and collaborating on them works best if we all follow the guidelines laid out on that page.

Pam ~ WikiTree Greeter

Thank you Pam. I will definitely read those guidelines. I'm just learning the ropes by entering my ancestors and realized that I was coming close to the 17th century. I had seen, somewhere on WikiTree, that I would need to be qualified to go back beyond 5 generations so I searched the help and saw the pre-1700 badge. I've been working on my own for a few years and have already learned how unreliable some published family trees are. The quiz reinforced that impression. I'm taking baby steps until my skills increase. Thank you, Bert

I absolutely agree Bert, baby steps is the best way to go. When you're ready, I'd love to suggest some fantastic projects - there are many kinds...ranging from locations and or time periods to biobuilding, and loads more. To find projects hover your mouse over the little menu bar at the very top right of your screen over the word "Find", lower your mouse down the dropdown list that appears and click on "projects". When you find a project that you'd like to learn more about click on its clickable heading and you will be taken to the projects page where you can read all about it. You can learn so much by being involved in a project.

I'm glad that you've come to join us here at WikiTree! Have a lovely day/evening.

Thanks Pam. I've already read the Pre-1700 Profiles and have requested to join the Dutch Roots Project. I'll look into more projects as I progress.

Welcome back to WikiTree, Bert, and thank you for upgrading!

Please visit our tutorial pages to learn how to use WikiTree: How To Use WikiTree. They will save you time, energy, and frustration as you add your family profiles.

Exploring the site is the best way to learn. One way to do that is to check out the drop-down menus on the top right side of your profile page. Finding a known ancestor and collaborating with the profile manager is a great way to start.

Questions? You can always use the G2G link in the Help Menu to find answers.
